The main goal of the program is to train students to become influential research scholars in their field of study at top universities worldwide.
Interested students should desire an academic position at a top university, and possess the motivation and ability to attain this goal. For this reason, our program is not an appropriate option for people planning to work in industry. Also, applicants have high GPAs and test scores, undergraduate degrees in business administration or a related field (e.g., psychology, economics, statistics), and research experience.
Most students complete the program in four to five years.
Tuition waiver (110.000 TL/year) plus 3000 TL monthly stipend and free housing. The monthly stipend increases to 3500 TL after the student passes the PhD qualifier. Free housing includes utilities other than telephone expenses. If the student would prefer other housing arrangements, a housing allowance of 750 TL/month will be added to the stipend.
Teaching requirements are minimized to allow more time for developing research skills. Because it is important to demonstrate teaching effectiveness on the academic job market, students may be asked to teach one undergraduate course before they graduate.
Our Ph.D. in Business Administration program has a flexible and interdisciplinary structure. Students can specialize in one of the following areas: Marketing, Operations and Information Systems, Quantitative Methods, Finance and Management & Strategy. The first two years include course work. See the curriculum page for more information on the typical courses taken.
Students with a thesis master’s degree are expected to take a minimum of 7 courses (21 credits) and students without a master’s degree are expected to take 14 courses (42 credits). Most students complete the program in four to five years.
Students are required to complete a first year summer paper, and write a conceptual paper or pass a qualifying exam according to their specialization, upon the successful completion of the course work. The student then advances to candidacy. A dissertation thesis must be submitted and succesfully defended to graduate.
The Koç GSB will determine on a case by case basis whether to accept a given course for a transfer. The student must have received at least a B grade in the course for it to be considered for transfer.
